ABOUT US

The Shelby Dunkle Memorial Scholarship was put into place by Kelly Walsh High School in memory of Sophomore Shelby Dunkle, who was in a UTV accident November 5, 2010.

Shelby Dunkle played as a freshman on the Lady Trojan Soccer Team. She first found her love of soccer at age 8. She began playing Recreational soccer at the Casper Soccer Club. After only a few seasons of playing recreational soccer, Shelby was asked to play with the local traveling team. After her first weekend tournament playing as a guest, she joined the Casper Blades.

She loved to play soccer and planned on playing soccer, not only in college but professionally as well. She played many positions such as a forward, defender, goalie, and mid-field but excelled as a defender. Shelby loved having the number 8. When asked why the number 8, she replied, "Because it is infinity, it never ends."

Shelby enoyed being on the field and being a part of a team. Her teammates were her family. She fought and struggled through every game, right by their side. She played every game with intensity, but always found a way to have fun. Shelby is best known for her sometimes brutal honesty, her bright smile, and her wonderful laugh.

The first Shelby Dunkle Memorial Scholarship was awarded in 2011. The winners have been chosen due to their "Shelby like" qualities. Our first year winner Jocelyn Morris, was chosen for her dedication to her team and competitive attitude. Jessica Berg, our second year winner was chosen for her ability to have fun and motivate the team. Jessica could make a serious game end with a belly-aching laugh, just with a simple comment. Our third year winner, April Taylor, was chosen for her "brickwall "defense and infectious smile. This year's winner, Rachel Franke, was chosen for her leadership, great attitude, and being a team player.

"For the passion of the game and for love, laughter and friendship."
